Botox and Similar Neurotoxins

Botox is the most recognized brand name for a purified botulinum toxin used in aesthetic medicine. Similar neurotoxins include products such as Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify. These medications are used in very small, carefully placed doses to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles. When performed thoughtfully, neurotoxin treatments can soften expression lines, prevent deeper wrinkles from forming, and create a refreshed, more rested appearance.

Neurotoxins work by reducing the signal between the nerve and the muscle. Over time, repeated facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, raising the eyebrows, or clenching the jaw can create lines in the skin. By relaxing specific muscles, Botox and similar products allow the overlying skin to smooth and soften while still preserving natural facial movement.

Common treatment areas include forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, lip flip, chin dimpling, neck bands, and other carefully selected areas of the lower face. Treatment is quick, involves minimal downtime, and results typically begin to appear within several days, with full results often seen around two weeks after treatment.

Neurotoxins can also be used for functional concerns, not just cosmetic ones. One of our favorite treatment areas is the masseter muscle, which is the strong jaw muscle involved in clenching and grinding. Treating the masseters may help patients with TMJ-related discomfort, teeth grinding, jaw tension, or tension-related headaches, while also creating a softer jawline in appropriate patients.

At Our Practice

Dr. Tekwani and Dr. Patel are both certified in neurotoxin treatment and have advanced experience treating both the upper and lower face. Their approach emphasizes precision, facial balance, and natural-looking results.

In addition to cosmetic rejuvenation, they frequently treat the masseter muscles for patients experiencing TMJ-related discomfort, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, or tension-related headaches.

Our goal is to help patients look refreshed and rejuvenated while preserving natural facial expression, never creating an overly treated or “frozen” appearance.

We are also seeing an increasing number of male patients who are interested in subtle, discreet treatment that helps them look well-rested without appearing noticeably treated.
